- LOGGING IN:
- You log in to FredHeadsUSA.org by entering your username and password and hitting the "Login" button in the upper right corner of the page.
- When you first log in to your account, please re-set your password to something you will remember. You can set your password through the "My Account" link at the top of the page once you log in. You can also set your %u201Cdisplay name%u201D via that link. The display name is the name that will be displayed to the public associated with your profile, comments, blog posts, etc. If you do not set a display name, the system will use your username as your display name.
- Your account comes with a personal "profile" page. You get to your profile page via the %u201CMy Profile%u201D link at the top of the page.
- Our system operates a little differently than most others. When you go to your profile page and you aren't logged in, you will see your page as it appears publicly on the World Wide Web. When you ARE logged in, and you are looking at your profile page, or any page for which you have edit permission, the system will present edit buttons on the upper right corners of sections for which you have edit access. When you hit an edit button, the content of that element will pop up in an edit box for your revision.
- When you log out, you will see the page displayed the same way it appears to the rest of the world.
- You can upload a photo to your profile using the %u201CBrowse%u201D button under the photo box on the top of the left column.
- You can tell the world about yourself and why you support Fred using the %u201CAbout me%u201D box on the top of the right column.
- GROUPS:
- If you decide you want to start adding blog posts or news items to your account, you do that using groups. You can either join someone else%u2019s existing group or you can start your own. Control of your own groups is done via the %u201CMy Groups%u201D link at the top of the page.
- Being a member of a group doesn%u2019t automatically provide you with edit access to the group. You get edit access to a group either by being the owner of a group or being given edit permission by the owner of the group. If you do not own a group, and you have not been granted edit access to the group, you will not have edit access to the group.
- EDITING GROUPS:
- Assuming your browser is pointing to a page for which you have edit access, you can make changes to the page, as spelled out below.
- Right below the top bar, in the upper right corner, is an "EDIT" button for the page header. You can use this button to change the title text for the page and some other things. So, if you click on "EDIT," a window will open up with the title of your page in it. If you change this text and hit "SAVE," the title on your page will be changed.
- On the lower left side of the page, there is the left sidebar. If you click on the "EDIT" button for the left sidebar, you will open up the left sidebar for editing.
- There is also a right sidebar on the lower right. It is edited in the same way as the left sidebar.
- In the lower middle section of the page, there is the center column. This works similarly to the page header and left and right sidebars. You can put as many "posts" in this middle section as you like.
- ADDING POSTS
- You add a new post to a group using the "ADD NEW POST" button right below the page header. When you hit "ADD NEW POST," a new post is generated and opened up for you to edit. It will be added to the top of the center column. Older posts are moved down. Once you're done editing, click "SAVE." Saving your post will not publish your post. Your post will remain private until you hit "SHOW."
- By default, new group posts are set to "draft" status--that is, they are set to display only to you and other authorized users. When you are happy with the look of a post, you hit the "SHOW" button on the upper right corner. The post will then be viewable to the public and the "SHOW" button will become a "HIDE" button--the function of which is hopefully obvious.
- Adding a new post is straightforward:
- Click the "Add New Post" button right below the header. This will open an editor window, much like the one you use to send an email. Create your post using the editor window.
- Once you are finished entering your post, press the "Save" button to save it and the "Done" button to return to your page.
- If you like, you can re-edit your post using the "Edit" button in the upper right corner of each post.
- Once you are happy with the content of your post, you can make it public with the "Show" button in the upper right corner of the post.
- If you later decide to make your post private, you can do so using the "Hide" button in the upper right corner of the post.
- Should you ever decide a post is beyond help, you can use the "Kill" button to put it out of its misery.
I'm available for any questions you may have.
